Virgin River Narrows I

Open Edition

This was, by far, the most fun and hardest hike I’ve ever attempted. The water was very cold this November morning. Perhaps it would not have been so bad had I not had an equipment malfunction. It turned out the gaskets on my dry suit were too tight and they cut off the circulation to my hands and feet. Nothing beats being in pain while trying to be creative. I sloshed up the river over 2.5 miles and managed to get myself up to Wall Street before turning back. On the way back I took it slow and really enjoyed the views. The way up was me challenging myself to see how far I could go up the narrows. The goal on the way back was to be creative and compose. I like this image because of the color in the water and the golden hues in the background. I finally got out of the Virgin River 7 hours after getting in. I immediately stripped off the dry suit and slowly regained feeling in my hands and feet. I feel privileged to be one of the people who have hiked the Virgin River Narrows.
